Champagne G. X. Crochet

Champagne G. X. Crochet

The courtyard of L'Echelle-le-Franc is located on the southwestern flank of the town and consists of a cluster of buildings adjacent to a large courtyard overlooked by a dovecote. Its construction is attributed to Jacques Des Marins, "Count of Leschel", in 1559. The Crochet family became owners of the estate when Henri Alphonse Crochet married Hortense Louise Guilliou in 1898.

The buildings surrounding the farm bear witness to agricultural development from the 16th and 18th centuries, including barns, a cellar, a horse mill and a dovecote. The cellar dates back to the 16th century and consists of six columnar sections made of burstone, crowned by a capital and supporting a four-part vaulted ceiling. This is the wine cellar that Gaëlle and Xavier have restored as a reception area for their champagne.
