Tenuta Il Poggione

Tenuta Il Poggione

Lavinio Franceschi, landowner from Florence, decided to visit the area after hearing the stories of a shepherd who led his flocks through Montalcino in winter. He liked the landscape and the people who lived in the area so much that he bought land and started a farm.

Research into quality, clonal selections, winemaking and aging techniques, and the construction of a modern winery took a lot of time and effort. This has been passed down generation after generation.

Il Poggione is one of the oldest wineries to market Brunello di Montalcino wine in the 19th century. It is also one of the founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium.

After more than a century, the work of Lavinio Franceschi is still a fundamental reference point for his successors Leopoldo and Livia. They continue to develop the company with the same dedication and relentless passion. In doing so, they combine the ancient skills of winemaking and tradition with the latest, most innovative techniques.
