Who the fuck is Knaust?

The breweries ÜberQuell, Freigeist Bierkultur and Atelier der Braukünste are happy to answer this question! The three master brewers Tobias Hess, Sebastian Sauer and Nico Döring have thrown a birthday party in honor of a very special beer connoisseur that no one will soon forget. This is largely due to the fact that the brewing geniuses created beers that would make Henricus Knaust go into raptures. But one thing at a time.

Henricus Knaust, a scholar and author by trade, was someone you were likely to find in the pub every evening. And not (exclusively) for his own amusement: The gentleman lived 500 years ago and had undertaken a comprehensive work on the art of brewing beer. To this end, he immersed himself body and soul in the subject and drank for all he was worth. For research purposes, of course.

The result of his efforts is the oldest work on brewing that has survived to this day. Knaust did a great job and explained 150 beer styles.

A true hero of beer culture!

ÜberQuell has sent its best horse into the race and had Tobias Hess brew an absolute cracker: In honor of Knaust, Hess created a Historical Ale with four types of hops, fine malt and a delicious hint of smoke. In addition to the usual suspects, there are also fancy ingredients on the label: juniper, lavender, cardamom and sea salt give the creation its special character.

AboutQuell Breweries

Beer is the great passion of the team behind ÜberQuell, and you can see and taste it! The far north is known for many things: delicious fish sandwiches, the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, seagulls and its dry humor. But now Hamburg has a new attraction: Since 2017, you can find the small, creative microbrewery ÜberQuell Brauwerkstätten on St. Pauli. With handmade beer from real people for real people, pizza from the stone oven and a lot of heart and soul, the makers have been attracting countless beer fans ever since. A matter of the heart Even though the guys from St. Pauli have a reputation for being tough guys, there's one thing you can't write off from them: Passion. And that's what makes ÜberQuell a true highlight in Hamburg's culinary landscape. Axel Ohm and Patrick Rüther are the brilliant minds behind the project and the people who conceived and set up the microbrewery...
