Vermouth

Vermouth or Wormwood (German spelling) is a wine-based liqueur, which is added and flavored with various herbs, spices & fruits. The wine is fortified with alcohol (= fermentation process is interrupted by adding alcohol), which gives them an alcohol content of up to 22% vol. and sweeter taste. Originally Vermouth comes from Italy, but has long spread to Germany, France & Spain. The name comes from the wormwood herb.
