Chicha Morada

Chicha Morada is the national drink of the Peruvians. The lemonade is alcohol-free and is made on the basis of purple corn. It has the distinctive color due to a very high content of anthocyanins. The corn grows mainly in the Andes, where the first inhabitants of Peru probably drank this delicious drink. The drink is very popular not only with adults, but also with children.

Chicha Morada tastes very fruity, has a slight tart touch and is sweetened differently depending on the region. During preparation, the purple corn is first boiled together with pineapple, cinnamon and cloves. The drink is then strained and flavored with sugar and lemon. Chicha Morada is drunk cold, of course.
