Brewery horseshoe

Brauerei Hufeisen

Beer has been brewed in the "Horseshoe" (built in 1738) according to traditional family recipes for four generations. In 1990, the brewery was integrated into the inn. Now you can witness on site how our barley juice is produced.

Our Pottensteiner Urdunkel has been brewed by every generation in the "Hufeisen" and is a typical old Franconian beer, deep dark and of fine hop bitterness. Our kitchen offers typical Franconian dishes from pot and pan.

In contrast to many other breweries, some of which simply color light beers with color beer, we work with the traditionally handed down, but also very complex two-mix process. We use only the dark kilned original malt for our Pottensteiner Urdunkel.

Our Kellerweizen is a very light, tangy beer that provides the right refreshment, especially in summer. The Kellerweizen is brought to maturity in the lagering cellar for four weeks using a specially developed fermentation process. Hence the name of our top-fermented wheat beer.

We deliberately do not filter our Pottensteiner Urdunkel and Kellerweizen beers. The filtration process removes important flavor carriers and, together with the yeast, also vitamins. So you can still get naturally cloudy beers from us, just like in the "good old days".

Recently, due to the steadily increasing demand for bottled beer, we have our beers bottled in a brewery in Bayreuth. Our beer assortment has been completed by our "Pottenstein's Premium Pils", which, however, has to be filtered like other Pils beers because of its durability and shine.

Our beers have about 12.0% original wort and therefore an alcohol content of about 4.5% - 4.7%. Lots of liquid with relatively little alcohol make beer a unique thirst quencher that, enjoyed in reasonable quantities, is very healthy!
