More information about Freigeist Beer Culture Stock Ale
Stock ale is one of the old English beers that have long since been forgotten Stock ales were first brewed in the late 18th century and were characterized by their powerful character The intense taste and high alcohol content were caused by the maturation in wooden barrels The barrel storage also gave the beer a fine acidity The beer got its name Stock Ale due to its high shelf life In contrast to most beer styles, which had to be served fresh and tasted stale after a short time, the stock ale could be stored for longer and served with a clear conscience even months after brewing
The Freigeist Bierkultur brewery is interested in old beer styles and has recently ventured into brewing a stock ale Their interpretation is brewed with American aroma hops and cold-hopped to deepen the flavor After the brewing process, the beer is stored for a good length of time so that it can mature to its full glory in peace and quiet
This process results in a honey-golden beer with a thick, dense head and a bouquet of grassy, citrus-fresh hops, caramel malt and candied orange peel The first sip reveals a veritable firework of aromas and caresses the palate with strong notes of creamy toffee, orange marmalade, pine resin and hints of tobacco, oak and vanilla A crisp bitterness completes the beery symphony
