1. a brief history: hazelnut liqueur, also known as Frangelico, has a long and colorful history. Its origins are said to date back to the Christian monks of the northern Italian region of Piedmont, where they skillfully combined locally grown hazelnuts, cocoa, vanilla and other botanical ingredients to create a liqueur - this is considered the origin of hazelnut liqueur as we know it today. The spirit was named after Fra Angelico, a hermit who lived in the hills of Piedmont in the 17th century.
2. production process: Hazelnut liqueur is usually made by soaking roasted hazelnuts in alcohol, which extracts their natural oils and flavors - this process is called "maceration."
