Humboldt Rye Dry Gin
Characteristics
The juniper-based Humboldt Rye Dry Gin impresses with its fruity, floral aromas and a light citrus note. Together they create a floral and spicy gin in perfect harmony. It harmonizes perfectly with citrus fruits and delicately sweet plants. Pink grapefruit and elderflower are therefore perfect for mixing a "fizzy" cocktail like a Collins with Humboldt Gin.
Alex Collins recipe:
- 5cl Humboldt Rye Dry Gin
- 3cl freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2cl freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice
- 2cl elderflower syrup
- Filler: soda water
- Garnish: a slice of pink grapefruit
Pour all ingredients into a shaker, shake well, strain and pour into a highball glass filled with ice. Alternatively, pour 5cl Humboldt Gin into a highball glass filled with ice and top up with a pink grapefruit lemonade.
Preparation
In 1799, the naturalist, explorer and universal scholar Alexander von Humboldt set off on his first research trip to Latin America. Humboldt Gin, developed in 2019, is a tribute to this memorable journey. The recipe for the gin, which is based on a pure rye distillate, contains plants that Alexander von Humboldt discovered in Latin America. Five of the 19 botanicals make the smooth rye distillate a unique gin full of character at 43% alcohol by volume - congona (cinnamon pepper), angostura bark, guarana seeds, cinchona bark and allspice. All botanicals are first macerated in the rye distillate and then distilled in copper hybrid pot stills for a full aroma.
