The Navy Strength enhances the extraordinarily citrusy, floral and spicy taste and sets new standards in the KUNSTWERK family. It also deserves to be called a work of art and is also produced in small batches, 100% by hand. A gin made in Germany!
What does "Navy Strength" mean?
During the long sea voyages to the colonies on other continents, food, water, gin and gunpowder were stored below deck. It happened that some sailors with a thirst for drink poured their gin over the gunpowder, rendering it unusable.
For fear of mutinies, the gin rations were not to be cut or completely abolished, leading to the decree that gin must have at least 57% alcohol by volume. alcohol by volume. If this is the case, the gunpowder ignites due to the increased alcohol, even if it has been soaked in gin.
To ensure that the gin on the ships really had this high alcohol content, some gunpowder was soaked in the gin. If the gunpowder could still be ignited afterwards, it was referred to as "gunpowder proof gin" or "navy strength gin".

Gin and tonic was for me just a delicious drink. Until I attended a gin seminar in Austria with my wife in 2016. Already the lecture about the history of gin and the requirements of the various production possibilities fascinated me very much and after we were allowed to distill ourselves at small table distilleries, my interest was aroused. In recent years, I collected the most diverse varieties of gin from all over the world, all of which had to be tasted. Unfortunately, not many gins could convince, so it was certain for me: "One day I will bring a convincingly good gin on the market". Over the next four years, I kept improving my recipe, designing the bottle and cap. The label was painted by my 2-year-old son in March 2020 - his first painting ever.
