The year 2021 began with a mild but extremely rainy winter, similar to 2020. Budding was early, even and regular. This was followed by a cold, dry spring with temperatures below freezing, which led to numerous frost damages.
Mild weather conditions did not return until the end of May. However, the unstable thunderstorms between mid-June and mid-July led to strong pressure on downy mildew. The 4 weeks of dry weather at the end of August are crucial for the ripening of the berries.
The tannin and anthocyanin content of the skins is promising. The harvest began with the early Merlot plots. The climatic influences since bud break have taken a greater or lesser share of the yield, but have produced balanced and structured wines with a beautiful aromatic framework.

Château Fonroque
Château Fonroque, einst das Anwesen der Familie Moueix in Saint-Emilion, gehört seit 2017 der Familie Guillard. Das Schloss wurde 1931 von Adèle und Jean Moueix erworben und später von ihrem Urenkel Alain Moueix geführt, der es seit 2001 bewirtschaftet. Alain, ein Agraringenieur und Önologe, setzte von Anfang an auf Biodynamik, wobei er organische Intelligenz und Beobachtungsgabe in den Mittelpunkt stellte. Mit seinem 20 Hektar großen Land strebt er eine harmonische Resonanz an, wobei Nachhaltigkeit und die Präsentation des Terroirs oberste Priorität haben. Unter Alain Moueix' Führung erlangte das Anwesen als erstes Grand Cru Classé die biodynamische Zertifizierung.
