More information about Christ Gin
Why a "spiritual"? When we were looking for a name for our unique sage gin, the choice quickly fell on the person who gave us the idea - Christian. Why? Pronounced in English: [ˈkɹɪst'] ['ʃin'] or ChristGin. However, as soon as we showed our product to English natives, they were amazed because they separate the syllables into ['kɹaɪst'] ['ʃin'] - and created a clear religious reference by combining Christ(us) and gin. We made a virtue of this circumstance - no need - and researched the significance of sage in some religions and in medicine. Our "spiritual" version is intended to embody our experiences with it.
Sage with spiritual benefits
Native Americans particularly value white sage. It is used on various spiritual occasions. Ideally for ceremonies, e.g. by burning the bundled leaves to create a spiritual bridge between the living and the dead.
However, it is also used for more practical reasons, in a sweat lodge - to cleanse evil spirits and purify the soul. Sage in Christianity , where it was believed, especially in France and England, that sage, as ambrosia deorum, could make you immortal. In the Christian faith, sage is known as the plant of the Virgin Mary and even the Holy Family is said to have found shelter from their persecutors under a sage bush when fleeing to Egypt.
In churches and masses today there is still a religious consecration with a bunch of herbs consisting of the seven main herbs: camomile, wormwood, lavender, peppermint, sage, hyssop and thyme. This consecration means something like a request for divine support. The herbs refer to the salvation of the whole person, to the work of God in creation and to redemption. There are different interpretations depending on the region and place.
Sage in medicine
True sage is highly valued as a medicinal plant due to its ingredients and its antiseptic powers against bacteria, viruses and fungi. Sage is used to treat inflammation of the mouth and throat, digestive problems and excessive sweating. In traditional medicine, sage is also used to treat rheumatic pain, headaches and menstrual pain. In more recent stress therapy, sage is also used as an anti-depressant for stressed managers.
Sage in the film industry
Winnetou's trick for surviving the ride through the Valley of the Snakes is even more suitable as an anecdote than for imitation. He rubbed sage into the legs of his horses. This kept the snakes away (in the movie). Unfortunately, his successors had worse luck and succumbed to the poisonous bites.
