More information about Mavrodaphnee Barley Wine 2020
Greece is known for its abundance of culinary specialties, and wine is definitely one of the most popular The drink described by poets and sung about by singers has always been part of Greek culinary culture and is made from a variety of different grape varieties One exquisite grape is Mavrodaphne: the variety was discovered more than 150 years ago and has since been the basis for strong dessert wines with an elegant, surprisingly dry character The grape variety produces fruit that has a bouquet of black berries, leather, herbs and mineral notes
The Mavrodaphne grape only became significant for us when the Greek brewery Kykao decided to mature its latest work in disused wine barrels of the variety To crown their classic English Barleywine, the brewers borrowed 17-year-old barrels from their friends at Parparousis Winery Over the course of 17 years, generations of Mavrodaphne wine soaked the wood and imparted an intense aroma These flavor components were then passed on to the beer, enriching its repertoire with fruity richness, herbs, earthy notes, vanilla and hints of leather, tobacco and minerals
At the end of this odyssey is a complex beer with an impressive range and sensual taste The sporty 12.0% alcohol content gives the brew a fiery warmth and the finishing touches
