More information about Altbier
According to the brewery itself, the Altbier from the Uerige Obergärige Hausbrauerei is consistently ranked among the best beers in Germany and is the beer with the highest bitter content in the country.
The brewery is based in Düsseldorf and the Altbier is a specialty of the region. Traditionally, Altbier is a brown beer made with a whole range of hand-picked malts and a top-fermenting yeast strain. Uerige has its own yeast strains, which were specially developed for the production of Düsseldorf's beer creations and are passed down from generation to generation of brewers. Uerige's Altbier has existed in its current form since 1862 and is brewed with barley, caramel and roasted malt. The finest cone hops and special yeast complete the list of ingredients and make this well-balanced Altbier a real treat.
The Original Düsseldorfer Alt from Uerige flows into the glass in dark chestnut brown and has a lightly tinted crown of airy foam on its clear body. An aroma of freshly baked bread, woody herbs and full-bodied malt rises to the nose and entices you to take your first sip. The first sip reveals a light-footed body with a full-bodied aroma: soft caramel notes lie velvety on the tongue, hints of roasted nuts, crunchy bread crust, spicy herbs and a hint of licorice are added as the drink progresses. The strong bitterness harmoniously underlines the interplay of aromas.
