More information about Zythos Humulus Electus
Braumeisteredition number 41 was created by the talented master brewers Götz Steinl and Anton Schwarz. The two have come up with a finely hopped lager and given it a venerable name: Zythos Humulus Electus is the name of the work and if we venture a rough interpretation, it probably means something like "Traditional beer made from selected hops" Zythos is an ancestor of today's beer that comes from ancient Egypt Humulus is the Latin term for hops and the word Electus stands for something that has been chosen with care
An excellent title for a beer that contains six hand-picked hop varieties!
Götz and Anton have chosen the varieties Herkules, Hallertauer Tradition, Nugget, Hersbrucker, Saphir and Select for their extraordinary lager and blended them into an aroma-intensive brew. The result is straw yellow in color and has a small crown of dense white foam on the naturally cloudy liquid, which combine with fragrant hay, grassy hops and tangy lemon to create a tantalizing blend The first sip reveals a stable malt base that tastes of oven-fresh bread, sun-ripened grain and ripe stone fruit The hops underline the aroma with hints of citrus, gooseberry and herbs and deliver a harmonious bitterness
