Abacaty

Abacaty

We, the SWANG spirits development team, were to develop and produce an egg liqueur for our customer in the summer of 2019. Since we have so far completely avoided animal ingredients in our previous soft drinks and spirits, also out of conviction, we finally decided, after much deliberation, to continue to create only products without animal ingredients.

During our research on the subject of eggnog, however, we came across an old tradition from the 17th century that made us curious. In what is now Brazil, European conquistadors discovered a refreshing drink called ABACATE among indigenous people of the Amazon. With the addition of cane sugar and rum, the drink made with avocados then became Advocaat, which is considered the forerunner of today's eggnog. This drink did not contain any animal ingredients. Thus, eggnog is an imitation of the aboriginal drink, which uses chicken eggs instead of fresh avocados.

Creamy avocado spirits as a vegan eggnog alternative.

The creamy texture of the drink was created by mashing avocados. We found this very exciting and wanted to reinterpret this old recipe for people today. That was the birth of our ABACATY (pronounced: Abakatschi) avocado spirits.

Now, for the first time, the SWANG spirits development team, led by Master Distiller & Master Blender Kim Weisswange, has succeeded in reproducing the ancient Native American recipe and transforming it as a palate-pleasing enhancement for people today.

WE DONATE

As a thank you to the indigenous people of Amazonia, 2% of our ABACATY annual sales, goes as a donation to the aid organization Survival International. It has been supporting indigenous health and education projects in the Amazon for decades. Prominent supporters include Richard Gere, Colin Firth, Gillian Anderson and Judi Dench.
