More information about Freigeist Beer Culture Smoaked Wheat Beer
With their creation Smoaked, the brewers from Freigeist Bierkultur are indulging their passion for reviving forgotten beer styles and, together with their friends from the Daubringer Hällche brewery, are giving Grätzer a new lease of life.
Grätzer is also known as Grodzisz or Grodziskie. This is because the beer originally comes from the Polish town of Grodzisk Wielkopolski, which was sometimes called Grätz. The traditional beer type is essentially a classic wheat beer. However, it is made exclusively with wheat malt. And although you can't tell from the golden color of the beer, the wheat malt is smoked over oak wood before use. The pale smoked beer was no longer brewed for many years, or only very rarely, until it was revived in 2015. With Smoaked from Freigeist Bierkultur, it is currently attracting attention on the beer market again.
The Polish beer specialty flows into the glass in a pale golden hue and exudes a subtle smoky aroma. The aroma of campfire and smouldering wood is accompanied by delicate fruity notes. The first sip reveals a light-footed body that plays around the palate with an interesting mixture of hoppy bitterness, smoky aromas, fruity pear and sour citrus notes and spicy hay. The combination of smoky character and fruity acidity creates an elegant beer with refreshing characteristics and unique flavor.
