What, then, Persia or Mallorca? Some of our product names can cause a frown for the inclined connoisseur. But it's easier than you think: our organic limes come from Germany's favorite island, hence "Mallorcan", and in addition to the Persian lime (Citrus x latifolia) there is also the Mexican lime (Citrus x aurantiifolia).

These are two different crosses that differ in appearance and in the composition of their essential oils: the Mexican lime is only about the size of a ping-pong ball and contains many seeds, while the Persian is larger and seedless. Studies on the composition of the essential oils have revealed sufficient differences to explain the different smell and taste of the two lime varieties. Which one one gives now the preference, may find out everyone for itself. In the end, we decided on the Persian lime, which we carefully macerated and slowly distilled after the extraction was completed.

The result is a top-quality spirit that - although also suitable for enhancing a caipirinha, daiquiri or mojito - with its subtle bitter notes accompanied by sweet citrus aromas actually passes for a cocktail in terms of taste. By the way, limes - contrary to a common misconception - are not green lemons, but a citrus species in their own right, and also turn yellow when ripe. The adjective "Persian" is probably due to the distribution route from Asia via old Persian trade routes to Europe.
