No 615 Chinese Jasmine - Spirit

Jasminum officinale, the true or common jasmine, is one of over 600 flowering plants in the olive family. Originally from the Himalayas, Kashmir and southern China, the plant is now also cultivated in Spain, France and Romania. The perennial climbing plant is known for its white flowers with their intense honey-like, sweet floral scent with fruity, herbal notes and is of great importance to the perfume industry, in aromatherapy or for the production of jasmine tea.

The edible flower buds have found their way into kitchens and bars, both fresh and dried. In addition to teas, they are most commonly used in desserts, but also in spice blends to enhance the floral notes of a dish. They can be perfectly combined with aniseed, basil, ginger, pink berries and white pepper. Cocktail variations include the Jasmine Fizz or the Jasmine Martini.

More than 100 substances in the essential oil of the flowers are responsible for the typical jasmine fragrance. It contains jasmon, anthranilic acid methyl ester, indole, phytol, benzyl alcohol, benzyl acetate, benzyl benzoate and linalool. Jasmine flowers contain the highest proportion of these substances at night, which is why they are harvested at night. An experienced picker can pick 10,000 to 15,000 flowers in one night. This also explains the high price of jasmine oil, which is said to have aphrodisiac properties, among other things.
