More information about Remhoogte Sir Thomas Cullinan 2016
Sir Thomas Cullinan can be described as a thoroughly unique red wine cuvée of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%). Multi-layered aromas make the cuvée a real and above all distinctive masterpiece. Fruity notes of blackcurrants, strawberries and sour cherries flow into the nose. To ensure a perfect balance, spicy undertones of cedar and coconut counteract the fruity notes. On the palate, this balance continues. Thus, the cuvée initially displays sweet notes of ripe currants and plums, which are subsequently complemented by red cherries and black olives. The Remhoogte Sir Thomas Cullinan, of which only 6240 bottles were produced, was also aged for 25 months in barrique. Incidentally, the cuvée owes its name to the great-grandfather of owner Murray Boustred, who found the world's largest uncut diamond in 1905. This resulted in the large and smaller Star of Africa, which are part of the British Crown Jewels. Their discoverer Thomas Cullinan was knighted a few years after the diamond discovery. The red wine dedicated to him is a real treat.
