More information about Rhein-Sieg Whisky Virgin Oak Cask
Exclusive whisky from Virgin Oak Cask - intense, full-bodied and incomparable
Our whisky matured in a virgin oak cask made from French oak - a cask that enables exceptional maturation with its high tannin content and finely nuanced aromas. Compared to American white oak, the French version is less open-pored and brings subtle fruit, spice and wood notes into play instead of intense vanilla. Perfect for a whisky that is young, yet mature.
The secret of maturation:the interplay of wood and distillate is carefully monitored so that the whisky is not dominated by the influence of wood. The slightly higher drinking strength of 44% vol. ensures balance and enhances the aromas. As always: unfiltered and uncolored - pure taste, as it should be.
A pleasure for connoisseurs:
- On the nose: fruity-sweet notes reminiscent of honey and citrus, perhaps a little , combined with a hint of caramel.
- On the palate: Spicy sweetness with a touch of liquorice and the subtle spiciness of ginger.
- Finish: Subtle woody notes and a pleasant spiciness that lingers for a medium to long time.
- Note: The Virgin Oak can withstand a few minutes in the glass before tasting it!
Why Virgin Oak Cask?
This special cask gives the whisky impressive maturity and depth in a short time. The high tannin content provides an elegant structure, while the gentle spiciness and fruitiness form a full-bodied, complex character.

Our gin comes from Sankt Augustin-Hangelar in the Rhineland. Carrots used to be grown here because of the sandy heath soil around the Hangelar airfield, which has been in operation since 1909. We wanted to create a product with local color, Murre (Rhenish for carrots) Gin in fact. So Murre Gin is definitely a tribute to our Rhenish roots - "Remember where you come from". After the decision for the carrot was made, we experimented at home with different botanicals, the results were tasted in the circle of friends. At some point, the basic desired composition was found and we turned to Frank Ginsberg, who was to become the distiller of our juniper. Together with him, the recipe got a final polish and since summer 2018 we now produce small batches of about 300 bottles with 44% Vol. We want to remain familiar and at the base and still deliver quality. That this is the case was found by...
