More information about RYEKORN
RYEKORN r ye grain is a special little sip of grain, distilled in Hamburg's oldest spirits manufactory.
What is rye grain?
Korn, distilled since the 15th century, is one of Germany's most traditional spirits. In recent years, rye grain has once again begun its triumphal march. Compared to grain brandy made from wheat, rye usually tastes much milder and softer. Of course, it is a matter of taste, but many also say that rye grain is more aromatic than wheat grain brandy.
However, rye grain is not the only beneficiary of the grain hype of recent years. Many distilleries are also trying out other combinations and recipes to suit the tastes of grain fans: for example, the 3 Korn brandy, which is made from einkorn, emmer grain and barley malt. Or NACHTKRABB, which is distilled from wheat together with oats. The great thing about Korn is, of course, that as a clear and often fine brandy, it can be given a nice touch when stored in barrels.
RYEKORN rye grain - production
All facets of the very eventful history of grain - from the grain tax and a ban on distilling to grain as part of the legendary "Herrengedeck" - manifest themselves in RYEKORN Roggenkorn: characteristic, unmistakable, tough, yet mild, not unforgiving, always believing in itself, authentic. A genuine and handmade rye grain from Hamburg's oldest spirits manufactory, distilled from whole rye and stored to perfection in old clay jugs. A pleasure on its own or in one of our many drinks.
Unlike gin, for example, it is the actual product that makes the difference with Korn, not its flavoring. This is what gives rye, the basis of RYEKORN, its immense importance. It is so special simply because there are so few rye grains. Most grain brandies are based on wheat. But also because rye - when processed carefully - produces a grain that is as characteristic as it is mild.
RYEKORN not only stands for a grain that is as characteristic as it is mild, but also for one in which all the steps are still carried out by hand. This starts with determining the recipe and continues with bottling, proper labeling and airtight sealing of the bottles through to shipping. RYEKORN is deliberately produced in Hamburg's oldest spirits manufactory, which has been producing fine spirits in small batches according to old family recipes in beautiful Hamburg-Bergedorf since 1868.
