More information about Snowy Owl Old Vintage Weisse
There are beers that become stale and flat over time. Not so the subtly composed brews from Schneeeule. The beers from the Berlin brewery are even made to lie in the cellar for a while before being enjoyed. As they mature, they gain in character, complexity, and flavor nuances.
The Alte is no exception: the Jahrgangsweisse was stored before it was sold in order to develop its aromas. First, the beer rested on wood for eight months, then it was bottled and aged a few more months in the bottles. (Preliminary) result is a manifold beer with a wonderfully acidic profile and a complementary fruitiness. A perlage reminiscent of champagne conjures the sensation of velvety mousse on the tongue, adding to the beer's exclusivity.
Ulrike Genz's Alte shows a sunny golden hue in the glass and is quite delicately cloudy. A seductive aroma of yellow fruits with exquisite acidity rises from the small cap of foam. The initial drink is intensely acidic and tastes full-bodied of golden fruit: sweet pineapple meets slightly unripe berries and sun-kissed stone fruit. A touch of salt and a warm, woody note perfectly complement the fruity acidity. The finish is dry, slightly malty and finely acidic.
