SotoMayor Sotol: The Botanical Speciality
What the makers of SotoMayor conjure up from a wildly growing desert plant has nothing to do with modern alchemy - but we still feel like we're in a gold rush when enjoying this distillate. Both aromatically and tastefully, its characteristics reflect the bulky, spiny leaves of Dasylirion. The plant grows in northern Mexico. It belongs to the asparagus family. The Mexican name is "Sotol", sometimes the plant is also called "Smooth Sotol". Smooth is a good description: the full-bodied, warm-spicy note is fun to drink without overwhelming the nose and palate. The experience is a two-pronged invitation - either to engage with it more intensely or simply to enjoy it in a relaxed way.
Nose: exotic, fresh, warm and slightly tart spiciness, subtle hints of smoked bacon.
Palate: vegetal with delicate sweetness, well integrated alcohol, fine tart, balanced and elegant.

Sotomayor
Sotomayor is a sotol brand from the region of Chihuahua, Mexico. It was founded in 2013 under the inspiration of the great traditions and history of the desert. The brand states that "Sotomayor is a refined distillate that, like the fine sands of the desert, awakens the senses and lifts the spirit." What is Sotol? Sotol is considered the national drink of Chihuahua, the largest state of Mexico, and may only be produced in the states of Chihuahua, Coahuila and Durango. Sotol is a spirit from Mexico, comparable in taste and production to tequila. This spirit is not distilled from agave, but from Dasylirion wheeleri (dessert spoon, Spanish: Sotol or Sereque). In taste, Sotol varies according to the Dasylirien used and is comparable to Tequila, but does not belong to the family of Mezcal/Tequila.
