Vintage 2014
Bottled November 2018
A new product in THE WILD ALPS portfolio - but still a classic, and in our view the quintessence of a whisky.
Distilled from our lightly smoked barley, the distillate is aged exclusively in selected ex-bourbon casks. Bottling is "non-chill filtered" - without chill filtration. Pure whisky for us.
Our Maund Single Malt Whisky 2014 has a subtle smoky note and the typical aromas of bourbon cask maturation such as vanilla, coconut, caramel and wood.
The product is also available in a limited number of double magnum bottles.
Tasting notes:
Aroma of apples carried by a hint of smokiness, but also the caramel, vanilla and oak typical of bourbon casks. A rich, juicy body with the expected interplay of fruity flavors, malt, honey and a hint of smoke and peat. Long finish, but precise and again the elegant hints of tobacco and dried fruit.
About the "MAUND"® brand:
John Oakley Maund was an English banker and alpinist who gained fame through several first ascents in the Mont Blanc massif in the 19th century. Sir J.O. Maund had stately hunting villas built by Willam Morris on Lake Lucerne and in the Arlberg region, on a foothill of the Ünschenberg Alpe in the Bregenzerwald.
The "Villa Maund" in the Bregenzerwald was leased as a hunting lodge for Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia for many years. From 1995 to 2007, Paul Renner, artist and activist, lived in the property. Among the countless illustrious guests were Zaha Hadid, Ferran Adrià, Günter Brus and the many prominent members of the "infamous" Hell Fire Touring Club.
A unique place of many myths and rumors and the origin of the creations of THE WILD ALPS - ALCHEMY ADVENTURE.
