Belgian Christmas.
In 1948, the monastery of Notre Dame de Scourmont decided to brew a very special Christmas beer: Bleue. Alongside Brune and Tripel, Bleue is the third beer in the group and adds a festive specialty to the range of classic Belgian beers.
Deep black with a ruby red shimmer, Chimay Bleue exudes a unique charm with its impressive head even before tasting. The strong Trappist beer exudes complex aromas of dark fruit, sweet caramel and mysterious spices. The taste follows on from the olfactory first impression and delights with a wide range of full-bodied aromas. Delicately balanced, soft caramel notes, spicy yeast, a hint of vanilla and dried red berries caress the palate. The lively carbonic acid lends the full body an elegant lightness, while a fine bitterness balances out the heavy sweetness. The Chimay Bleue 2014 Péres Trappistes is best enjoyed on a cozy evening in front of the fireplace with a hearty Roquefort on a baguette toasted with a little garlic and olive oil.
Our tip for real gourmets: We recommend storing the Chimay Bleue in a cool cellar for three to five years, which enhances the subtle port wine character of this unique beer and takes the enjoyment to the next level.
The Bleue from Chimay is available in the normal 0.33l bottle and in the festive Grand Reserve version with a real cork and 0.75 liters.
