More information about Coffee Columbia Supremo
Coffee has been grown in Colombia since the beginning of the 19th century. The first coffee plants were probably brought into the country by a clergyman from the Lesser Antilles via Venezuela.
Today, Colombia is the third most important coffee producer after Brazil and Vietnam, with almost 13 million bags of green coffee (70kg each). Due to the excellent climatic conditions (the growing regions are located in the foothills of the Andes, where a warm and humid climate prevails), coffee can be harvested almost all year round.
In Germany, Colombian coffee is highly valued because of its consistently good quality. Germany, for example, imports about 25% of its total coffee requirements from Colombia.
The federation of coffee farmers, in short the FNCC (Federación National de Cafeteros de Colombia) has made the preservation of this high quality its top priority. Like BSCA in Brazil, however, it is also involved in health and education, finances the construction and further development of infrastructure, and works in research.
