More information about Greif-Bräu Black
Black beer is a style that does not traditionally come from Franconia. Nevertheless, the Franconian brewery Greif has dared to try this classic from eastern Germany.
Schwarzbier from Greif is an unfiltered beer specialty with the color of freshly brewed coffee and a pleasant 4.9% alcohol content. The Franconian brewers have put their very own stamp on the traditional beer style and created a specialty with a dark aroma and a creamy, almost oily consistency. This deep black beauty is adorned with a delicate veil of white foam and smells wonderfully of caramel, espresso, chocolate and red fruits when poured. The first sip reveals a surprisingly slender, light-footed body with a full-bodied taste and fine, soft carbon dioxide. Sweet notes of roasted malt ensnare the palate and tickle the taste buds with hints of café au lait, melt-in-the-mouth chocolate, creamy toffee and candied dark fruit. A smoky note underlines the interplay of aromas and rounds off the composition skillfully. The crowning glory is a sweet, roasted malty finish.
Thanks to its full-bodied, malty character, Greifla in Schwarz is the perfect accompaniment to hearty Franconian cuisine: roast beef, dumplings, red cabbage, roast sausages, Schäuferla or a hearty snack harmonize wonderfully with the smoky elements and the warm, complex sweetness of the beer.
