More information about Communbräu Zoigl
The Communbräu Zoigl looks back on a long tradition. In the past, the beer wort was brewed in the Communbrauhaus and then distributed. The individual recipients then added yeast to the unfinished beer themselves and left it to ferment in their own cellar. Everyone could decide for themselves how long the beer should be stored before consumption. In this way, a load of wort was turned into a whole host of different tasting beers. This tradition was upheld in the northern Upper Palatinate in particular. Today, hardly any breweries do this anymore.
The private brewery Hösl from Mitterteich has sprung from this brewing tradition and honors its roots with its very own Communbräu Zoigl. Although the beer is no longer left unfinished, the taste can still be influenced by re-storing it.
The Communbräu Zoigl from Hösl flows into the glass in a rich, shiny copper amber color and is crowned by an impressive amount of light, airy white foam. The majestic head exudes a malty aroma of oven-fresh bread crust, roasted malt, sun-dried straw and spicy yeast. The first sip reveals a medium body with lively carbonic acid and fine, dry malt notes. Mild roasted malt, buttery caramel and tart herbs caress the palate. In addition to the pleasant sweetness, the Zwickelbier has a fine bitterness, which increases towards the finish to a clean, crisp bitterness.
A success!
