INDIE ROASTERS

INDIE ROASTERS

HANDMADE. DIRECTLY. SUSTAINABLY PRODUCED
Tomorrow still a good idea.

Here, production is really done with heart and hand. Behind Indie Roasters, a small roastery in Bielefeld, are Torsten Rosendahl and Anne Gerulat, who have embarked on an adventure with their idea of producing really good organic coffee specialties. In their charming roastery in a former gatehouse of a historic factory in Bielefeld Senne, small batches of coffee are produced on the 12 kg sample roaster, coffee labels are glued by hand, green coffee is stored, coffee bags are filled, work is done, phone calls are made and big plans are made. Always with the background of doing and making something that is really good for everyone involved in the process, the farmers in the country of origin, nature and the people here.

In the beginning there was the love for really good coffee. Then came the opportunity to import organic green coffee from India through personal contact. That's when the journey really started: 8 tons of organic green coffee arrived in Germany in early 2014. At that time, there was no production facility, no installed processes, no brand, no logo - really just the green coffee and the idea.

As with almost every start-up, there was initially a lack of the necessary financial resources to implement the idea quickly and consistently. Therefore, the founders got creative. Among other things, they started a design competition for the corporate identity at a university and tried to implement their ideas in a balance of demand and possibilities. In October 2014, the Indie Roasters brand was presented for the first time at a trade fair.

Now, after hard work and a lot of experience gained, all the conditions are in place for the company to establish itself and look confidently to the future. Every year they now import larger quotas of green coffee from India. Through several years of experience and exchange with partners in origin, the quality of green coffee is increasing, business relationships are being strengthened, and the roasted coffees of the Indie Roasters brand are also becoming more and more popular.

In particular, consumers who care about where their food comes from and under what circumstances it is produced appreciate Indie Roasters' products. Sustainability is not just a buzzword for the three founders. In addition to their approach of exclusively selling certified organic coffees from direct imports, they strive to make all of their company's processes sustainable: For example, they do without aluminum in the aroma protection packaging, use only paper labels, are "green" insured and much more. Still a good idea tomorrow.
