What to do with grain?
Korn, also known as Kornbrand, is a traditional German spirit made from grains such as rye, wheat or barley. It is a clear, colorless spirit that is popular in many regions of Germany.
Even though Korn is mainly drunk neat or on ice in a small shot glass, Korn is very versatile. Although the rich, complex aromas of the spirit, which can range from sweet and floral to spicy and earthy, are probably best enjoyed neat, Korn is also excellent in a wide variety of mixed drinks. We'll show you which ones.
Korn & cocktails
When Korn is used as an ingredient in cocktails, the strong, full-bodied flavor of Korn can add a depth and complexity to the other ingredients that cannot be achieved with other spirits.
Here are some cocktail suggestions using grain:
- Korn Tonic: A simple but delicious drink that's perfect for warm days. Simply mix one part Korn and two parts tonic water in a tall glass filled with ice. Add a squeeze of lime juice and a slice of lime to garnish. That's it.
- Korn sour: A variation on the classic whisky sour. To make a Korn Sour, mix 6 cl Korn, 3 cl lemon juice, 3 cl sugar syrup and egg white in a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with ice. Garnish with a cherry and a slice of lemon.
- Korn Cola: A popular drink, especially in the north. Mix one part Korn and two parts cola in a tall glass filled with ice. For an extra kick, add a splash of lemon juice and garnish with a slice of lemon.
- Korn Bloody Mary: Just like the original Bloody Mary, Korn is ideal for a brunch. For a Korn Bloody Mary, simply use Korn instead of vodka in the original recipe.
- Korn Margarita: A variation on the classic margarita, in which Korn is used instead of tequila. To make a Korn Margarita, mix 6 cl Korn, 3 cl lime juice, 3 cl triple sec and a splash of orange juice in a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with ice. Garnish with a slice of lime.
These are just a few examples of the many delicious cocktails that can be made with Korn. In principle, Korn is an excellent substitute for many other spirits, such as vodka or gin. It's best to get creative and try out new recipes yourself!
Korn & food
Korn is not only used in cocktails and mixed drinks, but is also an important ingredient in many dishes. For example, it is often used in marinades for meat and poultry, where it enhances the flavor of the dish. Korn can also be used to deglaze stir-fries and to make delicious sauces and gravies.
Overall, Korn is a versatile spirit that can be enjoyed in many different ways. Whether you prefer it neat, in a cocktail or as an ingredient in your favorite dish, this original German spirit is guaranteed to impress!
