Formerly called Citrilla, the wheat IPA may have a new name, but it still delights with the same tropical fruitiness as before.
Anyone who fears that the classic beer styles will be lost amidst all the experimentation can rest assured: The Maisel & Friends brewery is setting a good example and testing new, modern styles without forgetting its roots. As the name suggests, the Weizen IPA from Maisel & Friends is no ordinary craft beer, but rather a crossover of classic wheat and modern IPA. The pale beer is golden yellow with a firm, white head and a fresh, fruity aroma of banana, pineapple and lime as soon as the bottle is opened.
The first impression is confirmed on the palate: the wheat IPA is like a liquid fruit salad. A wave of fresh fruit overwhelms the taste buds and delights with juicy aromas of citrus fruits, mango and pineapple. A delicate acidity accompanies the fruity, fresh hop aroma. The effervescence and refreshing character deny the alcohol content of seven percent, but it can no longer hide in the aftertaste.
A little tip: even if Maisel & Friends' wheat pale ale tastes like a whole basket of fruit, it still won't cover your daily vitamin C requirement.
