More information about Rarámuri Sotol Joven Remari

Rarámuri Sotol Rémari Joven (Blanco)

The Rarámuri are an indigenous ethnic group native to the state of Chihuahua in northern Mexico. The Raramuri are known for their ability to run long distances. Literally translated, Rarámuri also means "those who run fast". Sotol Rémari is made from the wild-growing Dasylirion Wheeleri , which takes 12 to 15 years to reach harvest maturity. The hearts of the plant are cooked for three to four days in pit ovens on mesquite and oak wood, then fermented and distilled twice in copper stills. The result is a fresh, aromatic sotol with a delicate smoky note.

About Ramámuri

The Ramámuri brand was founded in 2016 by Valeria Bayor Bussey. Bussey grew up in the Mexican state of Chihuahua and was born with a passion for Mexican spirits: Bussey's father was a big fan of sotol, and his passion was passed on to his daughter from an early age. After studying economics and spending several years in Europe, Bussey returned to Mexico, where she immersed herself ever more deeply in the culture of the indigenous peoples of Chihuaha. The idea of founding the company was literally visionary: it followed a so-called peyote ceremony - a centuries-old shamanic rite in which participants enter a state of trance. Bussey realized the dream of incorporating her roots into the company idea and honoring the most important ethnic groups from Chihuahua: The name "Rarámuri" goes back to the running people of Chihuahua of the same name.

The Rarámuri are known for their superhuman strength when it comes to running unimaginable distances and winning ultramarathons without expensive equipment or running shoes. For Bussey, this is what the Sotol plant (Dasilyrion) is all about: In her eyes, a super plant that represents the strength of the country.

Rarámuri has four products in its range: three sotol varieties and churtique, an agave distillate similar to mezcal. Despite their young history, all four spirits have already received prestigious awards. They are produced in small batches by two fourth-generation sotoleros: Don Cali Alvarez and Don Bienvenido Fernandez. Bussey also sought help with the design of her labels. For two years, she worked with members of the Rarámuri and four graphic designers on the look. The result? Edited portrait photos of indigenous people that reflect the history of the indigenous people of Chihuahua.
