This mezcal made from 9-year-old Espadin agaves was created by the maker of our exclusive Sacapalabras Mezcal Ancestral with the intention that everyone should be able to afford great mezcal.
The Espadin agave variety matures comparatively quickly, can be grown under controlled conditions, and also grows quite large compared to some of our wild species used for Sacapalabras Mecal Ancestral.
The production method here is traditional, so the agaves are roasted or baked directly in the earth dagger, then ground by a donkey-powered stone mill, fermenting along with juice and fiber in wooden barrels with wild yeasts before the mash is distilled in a copper still. The not-so-rigorous lack of technology involved in the Ancestral production process makes it possible to produce no less great quality for a really reasonable price.
Both pure a pleasure and impressive in special cocktails. In the aroma and taste, a concise smoky note appears first, accompanied by a sweet, fruity impression, before the vegetal characteristic of the agave develops with a light minerality.

Sacapalabras Mezcal is handcrafted in Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca according to centuries-old tradition. For this purpose, wild agaves up to 25 years old are harvested, baked for days in a hole in the ground, crushed with wooden hammers, fermented with wild yeasts and then distilled in small clay pots.
