The Greyhound cocktail is thought to have evolved from the classic "Salty Dog" cocktail, which dates back to the 1920s. The Salty Dog combined vodka or gin with grapefruit juice and was usually served in a glass with a salt rim. Over time, the simpler Greyhound evolved into a popular alternative using only vodka and grapefruit juice.

Just like the Greyhound, a breed of greyhound known for its incredible speed, this cocktail is notorious for delivering flavorful refreshment virtually without delay.

Greyhound variations

In recent years, craft cocktail bars and mixologists have reinterpreted the Greyhound and experimented with artisanal grapefruit syrups and infused spirits or flavored vodkas. You can also replace the vodka with gin for a slightly more complex flavor profile.

Whether you prefer it as an aperitif or as an alcoholic soft drink, the lively and sparkling taste of Greyhound will delight your palate.
