Mexican Martini
Something really special: the Mexican Martini! This unique concoction combines the classic elegance of a martini with the distinctive flavors of Mexican cuisine, creating a delicious and slightly spicy cocktail fusion.
The Mexican Martini is a tribute to the classic martini, as it is usually served in a martini glass. However, the Mexican influence comes from the flavors and ingredients used, such as tequila and orange liqueur, which are more commonly found in a margarita. Basically, the Mexican Martini is a mixture of a margarita and a traditional martini.
Mexican Martini recipe
Ingredients (for 2 portions):
- 12 cl Tequila Blanco (alternatively: Reposado)
- 6 cl Triple Sec (or other orange liqueur)
- 6 cl freshly squeezed lime juice
- 3 cl olive brine
- Sugar syrup (if required)
- 6-8 olives (filled with jalapeño if desired)
- 2 cocktail sticks
Preparation:
- Place all the liquid ingredients in a blender.
- Blend on high speed until all ingredients are well mixed. Alternatively: Pour into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously.
- Place 3-4 olives on cocktail sticks.
- Strain the mixture into 2 chilled martini glasses.
- Serve each glass garnished with a skewer.

Mexican Martini - born in Texas
Although the name may suggest otherwise, the Mexican Martini is not actually from Mexico. The creation of this cocktail is attributed to the famous Tex-Mex restaurant Trudy's in Austin, Texas, which has been serving its version of the Mexican Martini since the late 1980s. This delicious twist on the classic martini quickly gained popularity and eventually became a Texan icon.
How to serve it
The Mexican Martini is traditionally served in a deep martini glass or a large cocktail shaker - depending on whether you want to pay tribute to the martini or margarita origins of the drink. The glasses are usually chilled so that the cocktail stays really cold - ideal for a really hot day in Texas.
The characteristic decoration often consists of a skewer of olives or olives stuffed with jalapeños, which give the cocktail a spicy note. It goes perfectly with dishes such as tacos, nachos and fajitas.
