This chili is also known as Piment d'Espelette and originates from Mexico. According to legend, a companion of Christopher Columbus brought the plants to the Nive Valley in the French Basque Country.
Basque chili convinces with unique flavors as well as light, always pleasant spiciness. Its fragrance resembles that of peppers, which is also reflected in the taste, coupled with a wonderful mouthfeel. The enjoyment of the powder-fine flakes is crowned by their color, which can also be used specifically decorative.
Targeted use of the Basque chili flakes
This chili variety fits wonderfully for the targeted refinement and re-seasoning of dishes. Of course, you can also spice up your tomato sauce with Piment d'Espelette, but the Basque chili comes into its own much better as a topping on sauces or creamy soups. A few quick ideas:
- on a (grilled) pineapple or mango with some fleur de sel
- on potatoes, fish, beef or chicken
- on vanilla or chocolate ice cream
