More information about Snowy owl August buck beer
The Berliners among you are probably familiar with the name August Borsig, but for everyone else we would like to introduce the gentleman. Johann Friedrich August Borsig is the namesake of a very special beer specialty from Schneeeule. He was also a native of Breslau and founded the Borsigwerke in Berlin, which today houses the hallowed halls of the Schneeeule brewery.
But now to Mr. Borsig's beery cousin: August is a dark bock beer with a pleasant 6.5% alcohol content and the acidity so typical of Berlin beers. In Schneeeule's wide-ranging assortment of diverse Berliner Weisses, August is a delicious exception, even if its repertoire of sour flavors has adapted to its peers.
August shows up in a gorgeous copper-colored mahogany hue in the glass and is crowned by a small handful of hazelnut-brown foam. A delightful aroma of summer fruits, wild berries and sour, still unripe plums tickles the nose. The attack is full-bodied and delightfully tart: notes of heavy, dark grapes, roasted, caramel malt and sweet wild berries meet a crisp acidity reminiscent of fine balsamic and champagne. The bock is unusually light on its feet and sparkles wonderfully fresh on the tongue thanks to tangy carbonation.
A truly exceptional Bock that you should definitely try!
