The Steenberg Catharina 2021 is a wine with a strong character and fine elegance - just like its namesake Catharina Ras, the founder of Steenberg.Intense and inviting aromas of blackberry, plum, cassis and lavender blossom combine with notes of vanilla and dark chocolate.
Layers of concentrated red and black fruits such as raspberry, blackcurrant and black cherry unfold on the palate, accompanied by a full, supple texture provided by the Cabernet Sauvignon (40%). The Merlot grape variety (45%) makes up the largest proportion, with small proportions of Malbec (12%) and Petit Verdot (3%) perfectly refining the blend. Light herbal notes from the Merlot provide a refreshing finish, while the Malbec gives the Steenberg Catharina structure and depth. The composition is rounded off by the Petit Verdot, which adds dark fruit and spice notes.
The lively acidity and tannins make this wine the perfect accompaniment to dark meat - a leg of lamb stuffed with garlic and rosemary is particularly recommended, but rich dishes with strong sauces also go perfectly with Steenberg Catharina.
The red wine matured 24 months in oak and has excellent ageing potential, but is already a highlight in the wine glass.
