More information about The Wild Alps

A selected "blend" of Jamaica Rum, aged for 12 years in selected ex-Bourbon barrels in the Caribbean, receives an exceptional "Port Pinot" finishing in our cellar.

The distillery of THE WILD ALPS is located on the estate of Tobias Schmid & Sohn AG. Here, more than 10 years ago, they started to vinify the specialty "Old Ruby" from the Pinot Noir grapes of their own production using the Port method. THE WILD ALPS has used the first released barrels for the "Port Pinot" finishing of the MAUND RUM "PORT PINOT".

First bottling in October 2018.

Tasting notes - among the top 15 (Swiss Gin & Rum Awards 2019):

Slightly woody, fruity, nutty, some peppery and tobacco at the end, "Asian spice store". Slightly green wood notes on the palate. Absolutely honest and straightforward, not Designt.

2018 Masterclass Vienna Rum:

Deep amber color in the glass, raisins typical of Jamaica blends from MAUND, slightly woody, distinct toasty aromas, a hint of caramel paired with dark berries and candied fruit. In the aftertaste, port wine "sets the scene". Perfect as a "sipping rum" and digestif.

About the brand "MAUND"®:
John Oakley Maund was an English banker and alpinist who gained notoriety for several first ascents in the Mont Blanc massif in the 19th century. Sir J.O. Maund, had stately hunting villas built for him by Willam Morris, on Lake Lucerne and in the Arlberg region, on a spur of the Ünschenberg Alpe in the Bregenzerwald.

The "Villa Maund" in the Bregenzerwald was leased for many years as a hunting lodge for Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia. From 1995 to 2007 Paul Renner, artist, actionist inhabited the property. Among the countless illustrious guests were Zaha Hadid, Ferran Adrià, Günter Brus and the many prominent members of the "infamous" Hell Fire Touring Club.
