More information about Hamlet Classic Absinthe
Absinthe Hamlet Classic Green is made for those absintheurs who are looking for the most classic, yet exceptional absinthe. Its recipe is based on the traditional absinthe herbs wormwood (artemisia absinthium), anise and fennel. Taste-wise, Hamlet Classic is surprisingly mild despite the wormwood and its high alcohol content of 69%.
This results from the fact that vanilla and some cinnamon are also used in the recipe. In terms of appearance, Hamlet Classic Green is - as its name suggests - green in color. Just as it should be for a real absinthe. The green color comes from the plant pigment chlorophyll.
When ice-cold water is added, Hamlet Classic Green clouds into a beautiful milky white. In technical terminology, this is called the "louche". Of course, the unusual packaging of Hamlet Absinthe should also be emphasized. The skull looks particularly real and creepy. After use, the bottle can also be reused (up-cycled). It is suitable for example as a fancy oil or vinegar dispenser and as a creepy flower vase.
We would like to point out at this point that absinthe is not (!) hallucinogenic drug. You won't see pink-red elephants after a few glasses (sorry :)). Despite everything, Hamlet Classic should be consumed responsibly because of its high alcohol content of 69%.
The story of Hamlet Classic Absinthe:
Hamlet, the tragedy by William Shakespeare, tells the story of Prince Hamlet taking revenge on his uncle for the murder of his father. The gravedigger scene is world famous, with Hamlet musing on the transience of life in the face of an exhumed skull. With its unique skull bottle, Hamlet Absinthe references this legendary masterpiece.
Why do some absinthes have a very green color?
Absinthe is traditionally green in color. That's why the drink is affectionately known as the "Green Fairy." But if an absinthe is particularly green, it is almost certainly artificially colored. That is, a very bright green color can only be achieved with food coloring. When an absinthe is colored with plant dye (chlorophyll), the color can change over time to a less vibrant green. In extreme cases, the initial green becomes a yellow-green, sometimes brown-green. Among other things, sunlight is responsible for this.
The chlorophyll dissolved in the alcohol is decomposed by UV rays. This is why many green absinthes are bottled in brown, opaque bottles. If you use a clear bottle, as we do with Hamlet Classic, it is important to store the bottle in the dark. But with time, the color change can start here as well. Here it is important to know that this does not affect the quality of the absinthe. The taste remains unaltered and it is only an indication that you have bought the traditional, classic Green Fairy.
