More information about Shanco Dubh Porter BA
The basis of this specialty beer is the Shanco Dubh Porter from the Brehon Brewhouse in Ireland The porter is a mahogany-coloured specialty beer with a wonderfully dark aroma and strong roasted notes
To top off their already delicious creation, the brewers decided to try a little experiment: instead of being bottled, the finished porter was filled into disused whiskey barrels and placed in the cellar for storage Shanco Dubh usually matures in the bottle, but now it is allowed to develop its full splendor clad in aromatic wood The wooden barrels have been used for years to produce whiskey and have taken on the fine aroma of the noble drop during this process
The barrel-aged version of the Shanco Dubh Porter presents itself in a deep black mahogany hue in the glass and is crowned by a small amount of creamy foam The gentle carbon dioxide sends fine bubbles from the bottom of the glass to the surface, revealing the wonderfully strong aroma Roasted malt meets soft caramel and finely spiced whiskey on the nose The tongue reveals a full body with a velvety mouthfeel and a cornucopia of dark aromas Melt-in-the-mouth chocolate, candied red fruits, roasted malt and heavy liqueur caress the palate A hint of vanilla and the unmistakable taste left behind by the oak barrel complete the interplay of aromas The finish is crisply bitter and perfectly complements the sweet heaviness of the body
A real treat!
