Steiger Spirits

There are certainly more relaxed places to work than being underground. But these special circumstances have an impressive effect on the people who risk or have risked their lives in mining every day: 1,000 meters below ground, it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from. What matters here is what you can do and that everyone can rely on you. This grueling hard work creates a bond that will last forever. Underground, work colleagues become real buddies.

Buddies like Andi and Dirk, who have been getting through all of life's ups and downs together since their school days and like to toast it with a good drop of wine. In 2016, they came up with the idea for Steiger Korn and Steiger Gin: spirits that are based on tradition but still have a special taste and, above all, remain genuine and down-to-earth. Together with Andi's wife Luci, they set out on a search in their homeland and found a local traditional distillery in Dorsten. Together with her, they develop Steiger Korn and Steiger Gin over the course of a year, experimenting with botanicals, citrus fruits and charcoal filters. Since late 2016, they've been pouring to friends and family, and they're quickly getting a taste for it. At the time, the labels are stuck in the garage of Luci's parents, at some point a few hundred bottles can no longer quench the thirst. Christoph, whom the two meet in 2019, shares the opinion of the fan community after a test sip, and a few glasses later everyone agrees: the brandy must go into production. Far more than a schnapps idea.

Marvin, a former miner, actively supports the team, so that a (success) story begins for the Steiger idea in 2020. One that finds its origins many centuries ago, tells of miners and their conviviality and cohesion, and wants to set an enjoyable monument to mining. And of the miner who goes forward responsibly and with all his might: for the miners, for the plant and for tradition. Good luck!
