Rum Raisin Imperial Stout - You have to let this melt in your mouth!
The young Berlin brewery BRLO has once again brought real legends on board for their latest work: For their raisin bomber, the capital brewers have teamed up with the Norwegian craft brewery Lervig. A top-class blend, the result is correspondingly brilliant. Their so-called Rum Raisin Imperial Stout is a dense, dark, lush beer with fabulous aromatics and a punchy 12.0% alcohol content. The beer's name pays homage to the Allied planes that probably didn't carry raisins but everything else vital to West Berlin after World War II.
The Raisin Bomber presents itself in an opaque raven black in the glass, a small amount of creamy hazel foam crowning the dark beer. Already on the nose, the Imperial Stout is a real feast: soft caramel meets spicy vanilla, strong cocoa powder and bittersweet men's chocolate. A subtle aroma of raisins soaked in rum adds a certain kick to the aroma and makes one exceedingly eager for the first sip. This reveals a veritable avalanche of dark, full-bodied notes. Melt-in-your-mouth chocolate, vanilla, lightly burnt caramel, vanilla and candied red fruits caress the palate with heavy sweetness and good toasty flavors. The taste of raisins preserved in rum hovers over the interplay of aromas and runs like a red thread through the drinking pleasure.
