Ice for cocktails - the different varieties
Who would have thought it: choosing the right ice for your cocktails is just as important as choosing the right ingredients. Because the type of ice can influence the taste, texture and appearance of your drink. Here you can find out which type of ice is best suited to the different types of cocktails.
Crushed ice: for tiki and frozen drinks
Crushed ice is perfect for tropical tiki cocktails, frozen drinks and mixed drinks that are to be enjoyed ice cold. Due to its small size, it cools the drink quickly and goes well with fruity and sweet flavors.
Large ice cubes: for classic cocktails
When it comes to classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned, Negroni or Gin Fizz, large ice cubes are the drink of choice. These drinks should be enjoyed slowly - and larger ice cubes melt more slowly. This prevents the drink from becoming too watered down.
Shaved ice: for mint juleps and snow cones
Shaved ice is a popular choice for summer drinks such as the non-alcoholic mint julep and snow cone cocktails. It has a light and fluffy texture reminiscent of slush ice, creating a balance of sweetness and coolness.
Clear ice: for sophisticated cocktails
Clear ice looks simply stunning - and adds a sophisticated touch to your cocktails. The clarity comes from the production process, where the water is frozen slowly to avoid air bubbles and impurities. As it melts slowly, it does not dilute your drink too quickly. Clear ice can therefore be used in the same way as other large ice cubes.
Whether crushed ice for a tropical drink, large ice cubes for a classic cocktail or even shaved ice - there is a suitable type of ice for every occasion.
