Zwei Freunde, die Ende 2020 mit der Umsetzung unseres Traums begonnen und im Mai 2021 war es dann so weit, dass die ersten Fässer konnten befüllt werden. Seitdem konnten wir regelmäßig neue Fässer und neue Sorten auflegen, bis wir dann in diesem Jahr endlich unseren ersten eigenen Whisky in den Händen halten konnten.

So we did it - on a 150 liter copper noble still, with fresh seasonal blood oranges from Sicily and a perky algorithm for our recipes.

Sauerland Distillers has already made steam with its Woodland Sauerland Dry Gin at a whole series of spirits competitions and won medals. The Woodland Gin Navy Strength also has almost ten awards under its belt. With their gin, Sauerland Distillers (namely Andreas Schulte, Olaf Baumeister, Till Brauckmann, Matthias Czech, Dr. Moritz Dimde and Gregor Biedrzycki) wanted to improve the image of the Sauerland region - how fortunate that there are some gin fans in the group. The history of the Schlitzer Distillery dates back to the founding year 1585, when Count Eustach von Schlitz laid the foundation stone for the Schlitzer Distillery. For centuries, grain brandy was produced in Schlitz from regional wheat. In 1969, the distillery was acquired by the state of Hesse until it was finally founded as a limited liability company by the municipalities of Schlitz and Hünfeld in 2006. The product range includes a variety of grain and fruit brandies, gin as well as fruit and herbal liqueurs, which are marketed under the brands "Schlitzer Destillerie", "Burgen Drinks" and "Aha Excelsior". For numerous products, the company draws on centuries-old and proven recipes. Only selected fruits and herbs are used, which are created by master craftsmen with a wealth of experience and passion into spirits of the highest quality and purity. A long-standing friendship, a shared passion for high-quality fine spirits, close ties to our homeland, and a centuries-old family history were the cornerstones for a promising project. We set out to revive what had been forgotten and to continue telling a story. We feel called to carry the story of Dr. Gert out into the world and to honor his work. Even more interesting to us than his story and the poems and songs about him was his interest in high quality concoctions. This inspired us to distill noble brandies from natural raw materials and thus continue his legacy in our own way. We place a lot of value on natural, high-quality products. We were aware from the beginning that we didn't just want to produce schnapps. Excellent ingredients, a special, unmistakable taste and the highest distillery art - in keeping with our historical theme - these were the things we had to bring into harmony right from the start.
