For any coffee connoisseur, the answer is clear: whole bean coffee always beats ground coffee. Ground coffee is popular because it is practical and inexpensive. However, it does not retain its aroma for long. Beans, on the other hand, are more expensive but can be stored for much longer. 1 kg of coffee is traded on the commodity exchange for just under 3 euros. In Germany, a coffee tax of 2.19 euros is levied per kilo. Taking into account the costs of transportation, roasting and the trader's profit margin, a price per kilo of at least 24 euros for good coffee is entirely justified.
