In the highlands of southern Mexico in the Oaxaca region, the Arellanes family has been producing one of the region's most famous mezcals for 11 generations - DON AMADO MEZCAL ARTESANAL.
This flowery, silky mezcal is produced in ceramic stills in the southern Mexican highlands in the Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca. Don Amado is distilled twice and filtered three times. This gives it its uniquely smooth finish. The bouquet is reminiscent of vanilla and honey, while it leaves a citrus-agave flavor on the tongue.
Don Amado's Maguey agave comes from its own cultivation. They are selected by hand as required and have between 27 and 28 Brix at harvest. These sugar-rich agaves provide a wonderfully sweet aroma combined with enticing licorice, orange peel and hickory smoke flavors.
The flavors are both elegant and biting with a slight earthy note, more of a feel than a taste, stemming from the traditional pottery that is still used.
The finish is wonderfully nutty with a light dose of vanilla
