More information about Steamworks Yuzu Gose
Yuzu is a fruit that has only found its way into European cuisine in recent years In Asian cuisine, the citrus fruit has been used for thousands of years and is prized for its complex, multi-layered flavor The juice and bright yellow peel of the small, tangerine-like looking yuzu are mainly used; the white flesh underneath the peel is quite bitter and therefore unusable
Craft brewers are known for their willingness to experiment with unconventional ingredients, so it is hardly surprising that yuzu has also found its way into the craft beer industry The fresh acidity of the citrus fruit harmonizes wonderfully with the aroma of many hop varieties and lends a certain elegance to malty beers
The Canadian brewery Steamworks makes use of the properties of yuzu in its Yuzu Gose The brewers complement the classic aroma of gose with the sour fruitiness of yuzu and create an unusual specialty beer with great refreshment potential Steamworks' interpretation of a gose flows into the glass in a crystal-clear, shiny gold tone, Steamworks' interpretation of a gose flows into the glass in a crystal-clear, shiny gold hue and is adorned with a generous amount of fine-pored, white foam On the nose, the beer presents itself with notes of tangy citrus fruits, natural yoghurt and salt The taste follows on the heels and plays finely sour yuzu, floral hops, light malt and a spicy hint of yeast A generous dose of salt rounds off the interplay of aromas
