At the Tequileña distillery in the eponymous town of Tequila, Jalisco, home to a number of celebrated tequilas, Master Distiller Enrique Fonseca distils agaves grown mainly around his hometown of Atotonilco el Alto in the highlands. For this añejo tequila, Enrique matures selected tequilas for at least 14 months in used Cabernet wine barrels from the Loire Valley in France.
The tequila is then placed for a further 14 months in toasted American white oak barrels in which either Canadian or Tennessee rye whiskey was previously stored.
This ageing process allows Enrique to achieve a truly masterful balance between oak and agave flavors.
TEQUILA ARTENOM SELECCIÓN 1146 was awarded gold by the Beverage Institute in 2013.
